Building Community @ 12:31 AM |
|
Look around and you will see that our society is very diverse. Diversity enriches our lives. Much as the biological diversity of an ecosystem increases its stability and productivity, cultural diversity brings together the resources and talents of many people for the shared benefit of all.
One may asks: What is building community?
Well, It is field of practices directed toward the creation of community where everyone lives together harmoniously, having common interests.
Then how do we build our community, making it a greater place for all of us to live in?
Simple practices like having book clubs or large-scale efforts such as mass festivals helps to bring people of all races together.
We can all play our part to build a community where everyone respects one another regardless of race, religion and socio-economic background, a tolerant society.
From young, children need to respect others and noot to pre-judge them. Parents to discipline them to behave respectfully towards others and make it clear that it is wrong to tease or criticise a person because of his or her apperance or religion. Some people behave in harmful ways towards other people and their behaviour is not tolerated.
From schools, teachers could play a part to educate students to respct others and teach students to put themselves in other people's shoes, that is, to care other people's feelings and not to hurt or anger them unnecessarily.
What could be the consequences of not playing a part in building a community?
There would be an increasing trend in violence happening due to differences among people. It would be hard to make people to see themselves as one and work towards a common goal, which affects a country's economy and progress. If everyone does not make an effort to prevent or stop it, it would affect our next generation. Can you imagine? A world filled with chaos, unhappiness, anger and violence. It would be quite disastrous. Therefore, i think that everyone should contribute to the society by making an environment that is conducive for us to live in.
